Now that I have two teenagers (one full blown and one very
near the cliff's edge), my inner teenager has also sprung back to life.
Specifically, my inner teen wants to hang out with her friends.
And sleep in.
She is tired of my pushing and prodding, volunteering and responding to requests.
If I suddenly transformed into a fourteen year-old for a day,
I would hang with my girlfriends, test out new outfits and rock some tunes on my ipod.
I would spend a whole weekend afternoon lost in a book.
I would let someone else worry about meals and recycling and laundry.
I would lighten up.
I think that my kids would welcome a more playful mom, even if
they roll their eyes and remind me, “that is soooo wrong!”
Truth be told, perhaps if I worried less about the household chores, they would worry
I’d show them that adults can have fun, too.
And I don’t think my husband would mind replacing the sometimes bitter woman who wants the family room
“clean right now!” with a more good-humored partner.
So perhaps I'll welcome my inner teen back to the party.
She just wants to join in the fun.
